Graphs with complete minimal k-vertex separators

چکیده
G. A. Dirac characterized chordal graphs as those in which minimal vertex separators always induce complete subgraphs. I generalize a traditional (2-)vertex separator to a k-vertex separator — meaning a set S of vertices whose removal puts k independent vertices into k separate components. Generalizing Dirac’s theorem, the {P5, 2P3}-free chordal graphs are the graphs in which minimal k-separators always induce complete subgraphs. I discuss other features of k-vertex separators, including their appearance in clique trees of chordal graphs.

A new characterization of unichord-free graphs
Unichord-free graphs are defined as having no cycle with a unique chord. They have appeared in several papers recently and are also characterized by minimal separators always inducing edgeless subgraphs (in contrast to characterizing chordal graphs by minimal separators always inducing complete subgraphs). A new characterization of unichord-free graphs corresponds to a suitable reformulation of...
متن کاملOn minimal vertex separators of dually chordal graphs: Properties and characterizations
Many works related to dually chordal graphs, their cliques and neighborhoods were published [1, 6]. We will undertake a similar study by considering minimal vertex separators and their properties instead. We find a necessary and sufficient condition for every minimal vertex separator to be contained in the closed neighborhood of a vertex and two major characterizations of dually chordal graphs ...
متن کاملTotal vertex irregularity strength of corona product of some graphs
A vertex irregular total k-labeling of a graph G with vertex set V and edge set E is an assignment of positive integer labels {1, 2, ..., k} to both vertices and edges so that the weights calculated at vertices are distinct. The total vertex irregularity strength of G, denoted by tvs(G)is the minimum value of the largest label k over all such irregular assignment. In this paper, we study the to...
متن کاملOn Distance-d Independent Set and Other Problems in Graphs with "few" Minimal Separators
Fomin and Villanger ([14], STACS 2010) proved that Maximum Independent Set, Feedback Vertex Set, and more generally the problem of finding a maximum induced subgraph of treewith at most a constant t, can be solved in polynomial time on graph classes with polynomially many minimal separators. We extend these results in two directions. Let Gpoly be the class of graphs with at most poly(n) minimal...
متن کاملA Note on Contractible Edges in Chordal Graphs
Contraction of an edge merges its end points into a new vertex which is adjacent to each neighbor of the end points of the edge. An edge in a k-connected graph is contractible if its contraction does not result in a graph of lower connectivity. We characterize contractible edges in chordal graphs using properties of tree decompositions with respect to minimal vertex separators.
